Le Cave Noire - Quick pour: Bodegas Aroa Le Naturel Red (Spain)



Bodegas Aroa’s Le Naturel is one of those bottles that quietly overdelivers. Unfussy, honest, and far more expressive than the price suggests, it’s a wine that feels right at home on the table or behind the bar.


The nose opens with dark fruit straight away. Blackcurrant leads, followed by soft oak, worn leather, and a gentle tobacco note. There’s a subtle smokiness running through it that gives the wine a little depth and mood, without ever feeling heavy or overworked.


On the palate, it stays light and easy. Low tannins keep things smooth and approachable, while juicy red fruit takes over. Raspberry comes through first, bright and fresh, with a light touch of vanilla extract rounding things out. Nothing cloying, nothing forced just clean, balanced drinking.


The finish is where it really earns its place. Strawberry fades into a dry cranberry edge that keeps everything crisp and moreish. It’s the kind of wine you don’t get tired of halfway through the glass.


Food pairing is refreshingly flexible. It works surprisingly well with poke and other fresh, umami led dishes, but it’s just as happy alongside small plates, casual snacks, or a simple midweek pour.


Made primarily from Grenache, with a small touch of Merlot, Le Naturel shows how expressive and drinkable wines from Navarra can be. Affordable, approachable, and quietly confident, this is a Spanish natural red that punches well above its weight.

A touch higher in price, yes, but worth it for the occasion. These bottles rarely stay on the shelf for long. If you see one, it is probably the last. That silver arrow label stops you in your tracks, the small 1/600 near the neck. We were curious from the start. Made by Gabrio Bini at Azienda Agricola Serragghia on the volcanic island of Pantelleria, just southwest of Sicily. 100 percent Zibibbo, fermented with native yeasts and macerated on skins for months in buried terracotta amphorae.
